Questions remain unanswered over Crown Woods school

March 20, 2013 By John Fahy

It is often said that a week is a long time in politics. Interesting to see the local Tories banging on about their campaign for a Grammar School in the Royal Borough. Back to the less glorious past, in my view.

They go on to attack me for using Twitter to criticise the local community in relation to my comments regarding Crown Woods. For the record, the Head does not live in the Borough.

My concern is not about the principle of Academies but the way the decision was taken. Many parents putting their children in the school, based on the results, were not made aware of the thinking of applying for Academy status. Parents who have contacted me are deeply concerned and rightly so.

Was this decision based on the democratic involvement of all parents? Were their views taken into account when the Governing body took the decision? If the choice of parents was to opt for Academy status, so be it, but many question remain unanswered.
