I have lived in the Borough for the last twenty eight years. I live in Eltham with my partner Bridget. My family consists of three adult children and seven grandchildren. Like many other families, I am always aware of the pressures that parents have in bringing up their children and how important childcare provision is.
I spent thirty one years as a Union Organiser in the Shopworkers Union, USDAW, helping to improve the conditions of hard pressed retail workers. I was fortunate to have led the campaign against Sunday Trading in London. The struggles of those I represented continues to drive my political beliefs today.
I have been a member of the Labour Party for the last forty three years. I have been a Councillor in Greenwich for the last twenty five years. During all of this period I have represented Woolwich Riverside. I am passionate about the area and people I represent.
I am proud to have held a number of posts including the Deputy Leadership of the council between 2014-2016 and Cabinet portfolios including Children’s Services, Housing, Social Services and Culture & Olympics. I had the pleasure of working with others to bring the Olympics to the Borough and securing significant Olympic legacy across the Borough.
I have a number of interests outside of the Town Hall including being Chair of Good Food in Greenwich and a member of the Riverside Safer Neighbourhood Panel. In addition I have an interest in supporting work around our Twin Towns including Tema in Ghana. I chair the Meridian Trust which brings together interested in Tema.
